Argumentative Essay (Gun Control)
Posted on November 28th, 2007 at 11:24 pm by hunter1988 and

A few months ago, a horrible tragedy happened at Virginia State. A shooter who studied at Virginia Tech killed 32 staff and students. Be caused by this case. The oblivious topic of gun control returns to public field of view. Anyhow people get fear again, or some people raise the banner of countering gun ownership once more. The US government still keeps their method to ignore public appeal. Maybe you will say the government is wrong, is bad, and even it is corrupt. But at here, I am not talking about the public and the US government. I am talking about the shooter, who is not able to be responsible for what he did, in the end even killed himself. So how can we describe this guy? Fool? Neuropath? Or one guy who had Excessive pressure of study? Everyone has every idea, but in my mind, he just is a guy who is not able to use or hold a gun. In order to let people have a new and comprehensive perception, I will talk about two standpoints between agreement of gun control and opposition of gun control in this essay, and then you will know how gun control is unnecessary.

Most people agree with gun control because they are afraid that getting injured by gun. The US has highest ratio of shooting event in the world. We usually can see some news from magazines like “Seung-Hui Cho, Perpetrator of the Virginia Tech, killed 32”. Therefore, an idea began to germinate in his mind. If the US has a strong gun control in order to people who are not able to understand how to use a gun or even anybody can’t get gun, then the shooting event will abate, and people will have a safe habitation.

However, I think the root cause of the shooting event is that there is not a reliable education and a puissant punishment policy. Every crime is caused by people who are disturbed person. So people should to teach the kind of people who are disturbed that what is gun, how to use gun, where can use gun, and if you use gun to do crime, what you will be in charge of your crime. A puissant punishment policy coordinates with education will have stronger effect. In the result, people fear crime, shooting event will decrease.

Also have some people think that gun makes killing radically easier. Nowadays, the criminal rate is much higher than 200 years ago, because there is an existing of new-style tool, which is gun. In someone’s eyes, gun is a convenient lethal weapon, like Seung-Hui Cho. He could kill 32 people not just because he has some psychological problems; the most important reason is what he used guns. This case caused people to think that gun ownership encourage crime to happen. In other word, gun ownership has hidden trouble to cause more crime.

In my opinion, gun just is a tool which criminal use to practice crime, so gun is innocent. If a guy’s mind already was filled by hatred and impulse, and he can’t find a gun as soon as possible. He will choose another tool such as knife, rope, hammer, or anything he can find. The thing will be still happened with his strong animosity. Would you think if there is a “knife control” policy, our security will be OK? Or we need a “hammer use policy”? Furthermore, this guy even can steal a gun from police or gun store, and make more social panic. Let us talk about Seung-Hui Cho again. We can sure that he lost his mind then, and he didn’t find guns yet. What would be happened? Maybe he would steal a truck, and then insanely drove the truck to hit everyone he can saw. Police couldn’t stop him easily. As a result, he created much terrible effect. So gun is not the reason to cause crime.

Some country like China has strong gun control, not only because they make a compelling policy to reduce crime, but also in order to people are not able to involved country security. As a Chinese, I must admit that in China there were a corrupt government after china republished, and it happened that all protests were brutally repressed by the government as illegal. Although it is varying better and better, we are not able to foresee that there will become corrupt government again. At that time, people don’t have any weapon to counter government, and they are not able to create new government, also the hard chapter will be coming.

Unlike Chinese government, the United States has a fairly gun control. The United States constitution embodies the ideals of freedom and equality. According to The Bill of Rights, the second amendment, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed (http://usinfo.state.gov/usa/infousa/facts/funddocs/billeng.htm).” It means every American citizen have responsibility to watch their country and protect themselves. It not only put restrict to the American government for persisting a well government, but give insurance to citizen for keeping a well habitation.

Gun control is not necessary; government should prevent crime from basic public education.

Car, a most important traffic tool in the US, I described it “In the US, car just like shoes in China.” I remember in this April, I asked my mom for a car. Then I got my first car in my life, I called it my fifth treasure, although the car’s age already similar to my nephew. Half a year later, I ‘m going to change a new car. Not because I don’t like my car which now I have, just because I don’t trust this car any. I don’t want when I am driving to Lansing, I have to stop on half-way to call The emergency services. I am considering choosing which car. If someone has good idea please leaves a comment.

Some of Chinese guys always want to study abroad in the US. I was one of them, but now I know it’s not so easy as I thought. I don’t deny the US has higher education quality, but I am so tired in my study. In the US, College students’ life is simple to native students. Although they also have a lot of reading to do, they still have time to go to party. However, we are different. I don’t have any language vantage, so I will spend five times as much time as they use. Therefore, maybe while some Americans were playing in some party or watching some movies in cinema, I was writing some essays or learning some vocabulary.

I am a college student. I don’t have any gift for language. I am not gifted; they neither. However, I have my dream, my life, and my friends. So I will continue my study for my goal in my way; I will do my work for my job in my future; I will go to my friends for our common memory in our another world.

In china, always have some people asked me: “which season is your favorite?” If I was still in China, I must to say: “autumn.” Chinese autumn always is endued that some kind of mood by Chinese, and you always hear Chinese say autumn is sentimental, depressed, or something likes that. Don’t tell me that you can understand it instantly. Not only although I have lived nineteen years, I still don’t fell fall’s emotion, but I came here, which doesn’t even have autumn, the US.

“Yesterday was damn hot”, someone said, “Is this fall?” Today, other guy said: “Today is damn cold. Winter is coming soon.” Sure, these are my feel. We know the world has four seasons, but in Mount Pleasant, I have just met summer and winter since I came. I don’t know how the weather varied my mind but it succeeds. I love Michigan’s weather, which is filled by excitement, inconstancy, and passion. I love Michigan’s weather just like even now I don’t understand why I love it; I love Michigan’s weather just like you don’t understand what I am talking about.

Essay 2

Effect of reducing class size

If someone asks me that which class I like best, I will say ELI classes without any doubt. Not only because of the excellent and patient instructors and kind, smart classmates, also because of the small class size. In my class, there are nearly twenty students. It is a relatively small class. We benefit a lot from the small class size.

First because the number of students is relatively small, instructors can pay more attention to their students and increase their students’ study effectiveness. As a consequence, students are paid close attention to. We can get specific and detailed feedback from our instructors, which is helpful for us to make progress. Instructors know each one of us well so that they can point out the key problem that we have directly and immediately. In my math class, there are over one hundred students, so that our professor has never taken a look at our homework. She just gave us the correct answers or just let us do homework online, which is corrected automatically. I believe that our teacher would like to correct our homework and give us detailed feedback, but she is less than possible to do it because of the large class size. The negative impact that the large class size has on our study is obvious. Therefore, I love ELI classes. All of ELI classes are small class. Comparing ELI to my math class, I have more chance to ask questions that I don’t understand in class, although they are the questions that are so simple to other students, it won’t waste too much time for the instructor to answer it one more time. Let’s imagine one hundred students raise one question each, we will have no time to go on with the text book but to answer the questions. On the other hand, since the instructors know each of their students, they will be able to develop a more effective way of teaching just for their students. An effective way of teaching leads to a high-achieving class. Thus, we usually understand materials quickly and have chance to learn lot of extra knowledge.

Because there are few students, it’s easy to get familiar with each other and make friends are the second effect. During our college life, making friends in class is less likely, let alone studying in a big class. But in small classes, we have chances to discuss and get acquaintance with classmate.  For example, I have a two-hour business class without break, in which there are at least fifty students, which adds difficulty to discussions and acquaintance with each other. I only know a few people sit around me even one third semester has passed. However, it’s a totally different story of my ELI classes. We exchange ideas in group discussions; we share thoughts in presentations; we tell jokes and fun experiences during the breaks. Therefore, it doesn’t take a long time for us becoming good friends.

The impact that a class size has on a student is undeniable. A relatively small class size helps each student gain individual attention and easy access to friendship. What if all the classes are small classes! Though impossible to carry it out, it can be an ideal goal for college education style.
